St Brendan was born in AD 848 in Co Kerry in the west of Ireland. Legend has it that, later in life, he undertook a journey across the North Atlantic with some of his fellow monks and returned with tales of mysterious foreign lands. It is said that he may have been the first European to cross the Atlantic. This sculpture is made in bronze with a patinated and pigmented finish.
